Earlier today, the Tennessee Volunteers received their 16 commitment of the 2013 class from CB/WR, Cameron Sutton. Sutton is a 6’0” 175lb CB/WR from Jonesboro, GA that attends Jonesboro High School. He is currently holding offers from Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mizzou, North Carolina, North Carolina St., South Carolina and Virginia Tech among others. Sutton is ranked a 3-star prospect by Rivals, Scout, ESPN, and 247.

It was no secret that Sutton had the Vols out in front for a while now. However, when he showed up in Knoxville on a Tuesday…with his whole family… you knew it was coming. When talking to the media, Sutton stressed that it was more than just the football program that attracted him to Tennessee. He talked about the character of the coaching staff, the UTK pharmacy program, and just the overall environment of the university. Of course, the program's tradition and new multi-million dollar training facility probabaly didn't hurt either.

Regarding his first visit to Knoxville, Sutton told Rivals.com, “I remember my first time I came here, out of all the schools I visited, this is the one place where I just came home to my parents and was like ‘Mom and dad, this is where I see myself.’ And this time they got a chance to see for themselves and witness for their own eyes.” In my opinion, while there have been many solid offseason hires, one of my personal favorites is Coach Derrick Ansley. He has been a breath of fresh air for this program, and he continues to not only impress with his knowledge of the game, but on the recruiting trail as well. Expect to see a few more kids enrolling at Tennessee, in much thanks to him.

One of the great things about Sutton is that not only is he a talented defensive back, he is also a good-looking WR. Many fans probably think it is ridiculous to being going after a 3-star WR when the cupboards are currently stocked full, but few people realize how quickly that will end. When you have 2, possibly 3 guys at the position heading to the League next year… it makes all the sense in the world. Sutton is the perfect size for a slot receiver in my opinion. 6’0”, runs a 4.4 40-yard dash, and has great hands. After looking at his film, he runs fantastic routes and has pretty good acceleration after the catch. Oddly enough, he kind of reminds me of former Vol, DeAnthony Arnett, although he is a smidge taller. As far as his talents on the defensive side of the ball, Sutton's strengths lie in his coverage skills. His ability to absolutely blanket a receiver and make a quick break on the ball is impressive. On the flip side of that, he needs to work on his tackling. It's not so much that he doesn't make the tackle, but moreso that he is not the aggressor... he waits for the ball carrier to come to him... which in turn, allows more head of steam for the runner, thus more yardage for the offense. Nonetheless, I think this is a very good pickup for Tennessee, as he is a guy with tremendous upside, who’s stock should only rise as he continues to impress at camps and throughout his senior season.

Stay tuned for a full update later this week for the latest on what’s happening on the recruiting trail for the Vols. Check out the link below for Cameron Sutton’s highlights. Go Big Orange!
